Botanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'
Hidcote Lavender has masses of beautiful spikes of fragrant purple flowers rising above the foliage from early to late summer, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has attractive grayish green foliage. The fragrant needles are highly ornamental and turn coppery-bronze in fall. The fruit is not ornamentally significant.
Hidcote Lavender will grow to be about 15 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 18 inches. It grows at a slow rate.
This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with very well-drained soil, and will often die in standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thus makes an ideal choice for a low-water garden or xeriscape application.
